I'm planning a trip from Buffalo to New Orleans with 3 kids and my boyfriend in July. We are cheapos, so we most likely won't be flying (unless, of course, we end up finding some dirt cheap plane tickets. If you happen to find something in the 100's, count me in! We haven't found anything that cheap yet!)
This will be our first-ever family road trip, and we will NOT be eating at McDonald's and gas stations at every pit stop! I know kids like to eat, so I've made up a plan... here I am to share it with you!
Quick Snack Ideas for the Family
Does this surprise you? It shouldn't! I drink it every day, and that includes on road trips! On our trip to Nashville last year, I brought a shaker cup and my bag of Shakeology! I stopped into McDonald's along the way, and would ask them for a lemon wedge, and then used their soft drink machine to fill up with water, ice, and shake it up! No one ever hassled me about it-they were awesome!
The great thing about Shakeology is that the whole family loves it. I mean--they LOVE it. Everyone's favorite flavor (in my house, anyways!) is Tropical Vegan Shakeology. And with it being the Healthiest Meal of The Day, every day, of course it makes it's way to the #1 spot!
When loading up on veggies, I try to find veggies that the kids will all enjoy... WITHOUT trashing my car. Here are some suggestions:
*Green beans (pre-snipped)
*Mini bell peppers
*Sliced bell peppers
Yeah... you knew that one was next! LOL
* Clementines, or pre-peeled/sliced oranges
*Yellow cherries (I mean, you can do red... but you know how kids are!)
4. Something to drink?
Of course you'll get thirsty!
*Bottles of water (you can re-fill them as you go along, if you prefer). You can even throw some lemon slices in before you leave for some extra flavor!
*LaCroix is a good choice for when you need to have a little something MORE than just water.
*Juice boxes for the kids (there are healthier versions out there!)
5. Other snacks
I HIGHLY recommend putting these in little portion baggies, so you don't end up eating too much of these!
*Hard boiled eggs
*Yogurt/Cheese(if you have room for ice to keep it cool)
6.If you have time to prep before you leave....
*Black bean brownies
*Homemade granola or energy bars
I'll be updating this closer to our trip, but comment below if you have something that has worked for you before!
