The number one question I get as a Palfish mentor is "How do I get more students?" I've got this down- I consistently rank in the top 50 of all teachers (I'm not bragging, I'm just trying to establish credibility here.... trust what I say!)
Is it REALLY possible to control my bookings?
Absolutely! The tips I'm about to give you are a mixture of things I've learned from the sales team and the Palfish team, tips I've learned from other mentors, and tips I have discovered myself.
1. Do a live video
This is super important, and people downplay the importance of it. Why do you want to do a live video? Why- you want to get your name out there, of course! When you do a free live video, you are basically giving a sample course....or a "taste" of what you have to offer in a class. The viewers get a chance to see your personality, hear your accent, see your facial expressions, and see how you interact with viewers (and props, if you use them in your live videos!).
You can attract new potential students this way- but even better? You can attract the attention of the sales team as well. How awesome is it, that you have the ability to wave your hand at the sales team saying "Hey! I'm here! I show up! Come check me out!"? The sales team divides their new trials (and official students) to meet certain percentages, but they are also allowed 5 teachers a day that THEY choose to send students to. So when I tell you not to write off doing a live video....well, I'm totally serious.
2. Use the Palfish Reading App
Most teachers don't know this, but this is the NUMBER ONE kids educational app downloaded in China! This app is directly connected to Palfish, and students who sign up for it are offered a....dun dun dun.... FREE TRIAL. You can do SO MUCH on the reading app. Now, I don't recommend to jump in and do everything at once. But there IS a ton you can do, and this can increase your bookings as well. Like book readings that students do, follow students on the app, and record your own book readings. You can also create student groups. Here's a quick video detailing some of things you can do on the Palfish Reading App.

3. Open More Hours
Now, I know this sounds like common sense...but there are so many times when someone I am mentoring says "I'm not getting any classes booked." I go through and try to troubleshoot with them, and I end up discovering that they don't have enough class times open, or they only have hours that are not compatible with children in China. For example.... a student is not going to be taking classes at 1 a.m. So while 1 pm EST would be a great time for me to teach (kids are in school, baby is down for a nap...), it's really unlikely to get any bookings during this time, even for free talk.
4. Open Fixed Slots
If you don't open your slots to be open every week for the same time, you are basically limiting yourself to trials and random classes, and completely eliminating the chance to get regular students. Regular students usually want to take the same class every week. They will place their name in that slot, and every week, that same time will book for them. If you don't have regular times, they'll move on to a teacher who does.
5. Teach Your Heart Out
You're here to be a teacher, not make a paycheck. Okay...so making a paycheck comes into play too, right? Of course it does. But showing up to class and half-a$$ing the content will do you no good (they know when you're half asleep and don't care). You know your trials are watched? And they can watch your regular classes, as well. This is a GOOD thing, so don't freak. It just means that EVERY trial you teach is a chance to showcase your awesomeness and put yourself in the spotlight (remember that whole thing about headteachers and the sales team???)
Teach your heart out. Connect with the student. Kick butt.
6. Follow the Rules
"I don't have any classes."
"You don't have to have the Palfish Logo or wear a blue shirt. I don't."
You don't believe me that those aren't related?
Look- there are some rules you need to follow, and those are the 2 most visible rules. If you were running a company, would you hand money out to people who didn't want to follow a REALLY simple rule?
