Creating your intro video for any ESL company is super important. I can't speak to the specifics for all of the companies, but it's important for ALL of them that offer it.
What is the intro video?
So your intro video is basically a (in the case of Palfish) 2 minute ad for your class. You have the opportunity to give the parents a "sneak peak" into what you're about. Are you chill? Energetic? Silly? Do you use a lot of props? Do you like to sing? This is YOUR chance to sell yourself. Don't sell yourself short by NOT doing your intro video.
TRUST ME on this one.
How does having an intro video benefit me?
Well, first of all, it's required.
But besides that.... if the Palfish team REALLY likes your intro video, they might just choose to feature you on the kids app. That means more exposure to new families... more exposure to existing families...more bookings.
Secondly- and this is an important one- parents book off of your videos. I have had soooo many parents come to me and say they chose me because they liked my intro video. Now....I personally find it annoying and it makes me cringe....but they like it, so I'm not re-doing it. What works works, amiright??
This is your chance for basically free advertising. I am so happy that it was added to the app, because that's really what it is!
Want to shudder at my obnoxious video? Here it is:
The best tips I can give you are:
1. Be original. Be unique. Show your personality.
2. Include props.
3. Target your video for the ages you'd really prefer to teach. Want to teach older kids? Target it to them. Want to teach 2 year olds? Channel your inner Sesame Street.
4. Speak slow, speak clear.
5. Have a good resolution, lighting, and make sure the sound isn't all wonky.
I don't know how to edit a video in landscape...
You can't record on landscape on your iPad and look at the camera, so unless you're really skilled, it's not really an option.
I recorded on my laptop (mac) and airdropped it to my iPad. Then I saved it there, and uploaded on to my Palfish account. This video shows you how I did it. You can also do it right on iMovie on your phone or iPad, and this will show you how to use iMovie to do so (with or without a laptop).
