One year ago today, I had my interview with Palfish! So....what has changed in the past year for me, and do I regret making this career change?
I can't believe it has been a year since I started this journey! Quick recap of how the past year has gone for me:
Passed my interview! We needed to be TESOL certified by January 1st, so I also took my tesol certification.
Started working for VIPKID and Palfish, closing slots in each platform as one booked.
Taught my first class on December 14.
Made my first $373.55
Worked super hard, with the grueling hours that VIPKID demanded. Had a lot of unbooked slots, and pulled all-nighters most nights. Started seeing ghosts in the middle of the night....hallucinations from not sleeping!
Bookings are a lot slower this month. I still made decent money, but not as much as I would have liked to. It's Chinese New Year, so a lot of students are taking classes. I used this time to learn and grow.
Paid off all of my debts, including student loans.
Started the approval process at NACA to begin buying a home.
Chose to leave VIPKID, and work only for Palfish. Didn't accept failure as an option, and did everything I could to be successful. The last 2 weeks of April were Palfish only. I sold 12 packages in this month, and started getting a very full schedule. I am adamant that Palfish free lives was a large contributor to this success in bookings.
Was chosen to be a mentor, and began mentor training.
June 1st my first mentor group opened. Began mentoring other teachers to success. Started a YouTube channel so help other teachers learn how to grow and see success as well. (Subscribe to my channel!)
Summer break! For me- that meant summer WORK! I have goals I need to hit this year! No rest for me! Lots of bookings, lots of work!
Opened second mentor group.
Opened my third mentor group. School is now back in session in both my home and my students', so modified my schedule as necessary. Back to normal! WHEW!
Published my e-book on how to be a successful ESL teacher.
Happy National Day in China! Now that I have an established student base, this holiday didn't negatively affect my bookings--it was summertime bookings all over again for this week.
Dealing with the time change, waking up an hour earlier than usual.
1474 teaching hours, 2068 followers on the app (I don't really pay much attention to the followers to be honest). Fully booked, I have been for months now.
Getting ready to buy my home...waiting on one last piece of paperwork and then it will go to the underwriter! YAYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!
